The Green Bay Packers have taken another step towards finalizing Matt LaFleur‘s coaching staff for the 2025 NFL season. Following several departures, the team found itself in need of adding new voices. Defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich was fired after the season. Eventually he was replaced by former New England Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington.
In addition, quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, the only man in history to work with Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and Jordan Love, announced his retirement (for the second time). He has been replaced by former NFL quarterback Sean Mannion, who was an offensive assistant for the Packers last year.
But while these were the only changes on the coaching staff initially, the Jacksonville Jaguars ended up forcing Green Bay into even more.
Former Green Bay Packers Coaches Left for the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars really bungled their head coaching search by not firing their former general manager, Trent Baalke, after the season ended. Multiple head coaching candidates withdrew their names from consideration because Baalke was still employed by the organization. It was not until they fired him that they got Liam Coen to spurn the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their contract extension to take the head coaching job.
One of Coen’s first hires as head coach was to snipe Packers linebackers coach Anthony Campanile as his defensive coordinator. Once Campanile arrived in Jacksonville, he convinced Packers defensive quality control coach Anthony Perkins to join him as his defensive backs coach.
To replace Campanile, LaFleur and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley promoted Sean Duggan to linebackers coach. Duggan joined Green Bay’s staff with Hafley in 2024 after serving as his co-defensive coordinator. However, to replace Perkins, the Packers looked to someone outside of the organization.
The Green Bay Packers Have Hired Jamael Lett to Replace Anthony Perkins

As mentioned previously, the Packers hired former Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington as their defensive line coach for the 2025 NFL season. With a the defensive quality control coaching job up for grabs, they decided to look to one of his former assistants in New England.
The #Packers are hiring Jamael Lett as a defensive backs quality control coach, a source tells @CBSSports/@247Sports.
Lett was a coaching assistant with the Patriots this season. Previously worked in college at South Alabama and North Carolina.https://t.co/qOetA1iLiU pic.twitter.com/Tuaf52Ddgg

Per Zach Kruse of Packers Wire, the connection to Covington is likely what led to the hire:
“The connection likely led to the hiring. Lett and Covington played college football together at Samford, and they coached together at UT-Martin for a year.”
It will be interesting to see if Green Bay gets Lett a new top cornerback to work with on the free agent market or via the NFL Draft, as it appears that Jaire Alexander’s time with the Packers is coming to an end.
