Nestor Cortes has 1 wish for his first start against the Yankees

Nestor Cortes, last year’s Opening Day starter for the New York Yankees and current member of the Milwaukee Brewers, is slated to start the second game of the 2025 season.  This match up just so happens to be the Brewers vs Yankees, in New York.

Cortes was recently asked about facing his former teammates.  He responded by saying that he knew this was a possibility since being traded, is excited to face everybody, and had one wish for how the game will go.

Cortes had a bit of an up and down tenure with the Yankees.  He finished with a 3.61 ERA across five seasons, finished eighth in Cy Young voting in 2022, battled shoulder injuries in 2023, and posted a 3.77 ERA last year while throwing a career best 171 innings.  When Cortes returns to New York he has one wish, and that is to “hopefully dominate.”

Nestor Cortes has a lot riding on the line this year with the Milwaukee Brewers

Brewers executive Matt Arnold traded one of the games best closers, Devin Williams, in exchange for Cortes and infielder Caleb Durbin.  Cortes has just one year left on his contract and then will be a free agent for the first time in his career.  How he performs in 2025 will have a big impact on his future contract.
