The Green Bay Packers have been the center of everyone’s attention after they decided to trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. The vibe coming out of Lambeau right now is electric as Jordan Love prepares to take over as the new starting quarterback.
Throughout training camp, Love has shown excellent arm strength, great touch on his passes, and the ability to make any pass on the field. But will all that preseason success equate to wins in the regular season? Let’s dive into things and see how the Packers offense will fare in 2023.
Green Bay Packers 2023 Offense
Love enters his first season as a starter and has the skills to pay the bills. If you watched him in training camp and the preseason, he looked really good and was even throwing Mahomes-like throws. He has shown excellent arm strength, great touch on his passes, and the ability to make any pass on the field. Backup Sean Clifford is a solid quarterback in his own right and will be a good fit in Green Bay. I have no doubts that Love will have a solid year, and I think he learned quite a bit from being Rodgers’ backup for three years.
Packers Quarterback Grade: B
Let’s start with the backfield; Aaron Jones and AJ ‘Quadzilla’ Dillion form a dynamic duo that complement each other very well. Jones is lightning, and Dillon is thunder. Last year, they rushed for 1,891 yards and tallied nine touchdowns. These guys are likely to get more volume this year than in 2022. Love will look to check down which Jones is more likely to be the recipient of.
Packers Backfield Grade: B-
The receiving corps is young and inexperienced but loaded with talent. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs will likely be the primary receivers, while rookie Jayden Reed figures to be the WR3. Other notable players include Malik Heath, Samori Toure, and Dontayvion Wicks. Love has underrated weapons, and this unit will shock people this year.
Packers Receiver Room Grade: C+
There is a lot of hype around rookie tight end Luke Musgrave going in the regular season. Musgrave is the projected starter, and at 6’6″ and 254 lbs., he could develop into Love’s security blanket in no time. Rookie Tucker Kraft and veteran Josiah Degura figure to be involved as well. The Packers have a decent group of tight ends, but they will have to prove they are reliable and able to produce on game day.
Packers Tight Ends Grade: C
Green Bay’s offensive line is the heart and soul of this team. Love has plenty of protection with David Bakhtiari, Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, Jon Runyan, and Tom Zach. They also have some depth, and this offensive line should easily be a top-10 unit in 2023.
Packers O-Line Grade: A-
Final Review & Grade
This Packers offense is highly underrated, and despite what people say, I see this offense running in the middle of the pack this year. I would not be shocked if they finished as high as 12th-15th. Matt LaFleur has done a phenomenal job as head coach and has put together a 47-19 record in four years. The bottom line is this: the Packers will be fine without Rodgers, and I would not be surprised if they finished the season with a better record than the Jets.
Packers Offensive Grade: B
