The Green Bay Packers will take on the New Orleans Saints for their home opener in Week Three. As the Packers look to get back on track after their Week Two loss to the Atlanta Falcons, they were assumed to have to do so against running back Jamaal Williams.
Williams spent the first four years of his career in Green Bay and quickly turned into an all-time fan favorite. However, after the Packers drafted AJ Dillon and committed to Aaron Jones long-term, the team decided to move on from Williams.
Green Bay Packers Fans React To Jamaal Williams Being OUT For The New Orleans Saints In Week Three
Dennis Allen said Tuesday that Saints running back Jamaal Williams will miss time with a hamstring injury.
In the first half of Monday night’s Saints’ victory over the Carolina Panthers, Williams left after playing just 18 snaps. With Alvin Kamara serving his suspension and Kendre Miller being inactive, the Saints were left with only practice squad running back Tony Jones Jr. and quarterback Taysom Hill.
After missing the past two weeks with a hamstring injury, Miller is expected back this week. Although he has yet to make his NFL debut, the rookie third-round pick is expected to be ready for this week’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
Williams was drafted in the fourth round in the 2017 draft by Green Bay. He ended his tenure in Green Bay with 622 total touches, 1,985 yards rushing, 961 yards receiving and 18 total touchdowns. He averaged four yards a carry, and just under eight yards per reception.
In 2022 with the Detroit Lions he had a career high in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. He finished with 1,066 yards and 17 touchdowns. When Packers fans realized they wouldn’t see Williams on the field this week, they took to social media:
Looks like no Jamaal Williams against the Packers https://t.co/qYJ4FuwfRp

Instead of having to worry about Jamaal Williams on Sunday, Packers will have to worry about Tony Jones.

I’d look over if anything. The Packers’ young guys are feast or famine but do hit a few big plays & I’m not convinced Barry’s D will stop anyone for 4 Qrtrs. And….Jamaal Williams’s absence means less grinding it out. I did the over in a teaser so they only have to hit 36.
