The Green Bay Packers were forced with an extremely tough decision two off-seasons ago that eventually led to the trade of Davante Adams. Adams made it clear he wanted out, and specifically, wanted to play for the Las Vegas Raiders. At the time, it seemed like a good fit. The Raiders had Derek Carr, they were coming off a playoff appearance, and Adams was extremely motivated to play with his college QB.
However, things have not panned out the way he had hoped. The Raiders finished with a 6-11 record in 2022, they released Derek Carr, they have fired their head coach, and now they’re sitting at 5-8 this year. Last place in the AFC West. On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings handed the Raiders their eighth loss of the season in the form of a 3-0 low scoring affair. After the loss, Adams did something a little uncharacteristic.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams Had Enough Of The Media Following The Las Vegas Raiders Loss To The Minnesota Vikings
Austin Boyd went into detail about Adams’ post game disappearance:
Wide receiver Davante Adams was the victim of a lifeless offense as he only had seven catches for 53 yards. It was the sixth time this season he was held under 60 receiving yards and he clearly wasn’t thrilled after the game.
According to a December 10 X post from The Athletic’s Tashan Reed, Adams had the locker room before it was open to the media.
As a team captain, Adams almost always fulfills his responsibility to speak to the media after games even if it’s a win or a loss. The fact that he left isn’t a good sign of how he feels about the current state of the team. This will be a situation to watch as he’s already expressed frustration in the past.
Adams’ Future In Vegas Has Been Rumored To Be Up In The Air For A While
In the wake of trade rumors (prior to the deadline), Adams reiterated his intention to remain with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In March 2022, Adams moved from Green Bay Packers to the Raiders. Despite playing in just his second season at Allegiant Stadium, there have already been numerious suggestions he could move on, especially after good friend and quarterback Derek Carr left the team. Adams did comment on Carr’s departure back in January:
“I wouldn’t have been here or ended up here, originally, probably if Derek wasn’t here,” Adams said Wednesday. “But that doesn’t necessarily mean that I won’t be here in the event that he’s not here. That’s my boy. Obviously, I’ve got his back through anything. I think I’ve made that more than clear at this point. I support him and I support everything that he has moving forward as well.
“But my dream was to play for this team before he was a Raider, obviously, and at this point I want to try to make this thing work and continue on doing what I’m doing here, myself get better and obviously see the team grow and get better as well.”
The Raiders have had a losing record each season he has been in Vegas, which is a far cry from the Super Bowl aspirations he had when he arrived. It will be interesting to see if another sub par season will make Adams rethink he decision to remain committed to the Raiders.
