A lot will be on the line for Davante Adams when he takes the field on Monday night to face off against his former team, the Green Bay Packers. It has been more than a year since his messy divorce with the organization that drafted him in the second round way back in 2014, and Monday night will present an opportunity to rekindle some old flames.
Davante Adams Admits Facing Green Bay Packers Will Be Weird
Ahead of the highly-anticipated matchup against the Packers, the Raiders wide receiver shared his brutally honest thoughts about facing his former team as well as his former teammates:
“It’ll be weird,” Adams said with a grin, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. “I’ll get over it by the time the game starts. But going over there, coming out of the tunnel, seeing them over there, it’ll be weird. I haven’t experienced, obviously, I haven’t played against the Packers before, so it’ll be fun.
“It’ll be good to see some [familiar] faces and compete against those boys at a different level, too.”
I’m pretty sure the Packers as well as their fans are also looking forward to going up against their former superstar wideout.
Davante Adams Just Wants to Win
The Raiders enter Monday’s game with a 1-3 record. It’s another tough start for Las Vegas, who is now looking to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last term.
For his part, Adams had another stellar campaign in 2022, but not even his strong play was enough to lead the 6-11 Raiders to a playoff spot last season. At this point, it’s just all about winning for the three-time All-Pro WR:
“I’m just trying to stay centered and stay focused on the ultimate goal, which is winning games,” he said. “It’s the cliché answer, but that’s really all I can do. … My job is to play, and the front office, their job is to do what they do. It’s just the easiest way to not live on a roller coaster, this up and down world, just take care of what I can take care of. And as much as I can contribute to that, I’m going to do that.
“And that’s how you build a winning culture. So, when I [say] we haven’t established a winning culture, it’s more about what we can do as players, more than the philosophies and the ideas. Because everything that they preach here, the way we talk about it and the way they want it done, is the right way.”
Needless to say, a win on Monday night will go a long way for both Adams and the Raiders. The fact that it will come at the expense of his former team has to add a bit more spice to this narrative.
