Darnell Savage had a subpar year for the Green Bay Packers. After showing so much promise after being drafted out of Maryland, Savage has struggled mightily, especially last year. Now, Savage is a key member of the safety room as Adrian Amos joined Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets. In a recent interview, Savage said he is “anxious” to get back on the field for 2023.
Green Bay Packers Darnell Savage Ready For 2023
Savage went through a benching late last season but he didn’t get down on himself. He had a decent end to the season but overall 2022 left a bad taste in his mouth and he wants to get it out. He talked about his excitement to get back on the field.
“I’m excited. I’m ready to go — like, right now,” Savage said, via the team’s website. “Anxious. Had a long offseason to kind of think about last year, had this kind of bad taste in my mouth for the longest time, so I’m ready to get it out.”
You have to admire his eagerness to improve. Say what you want about Savage’s play, his attitude is exactly what you want to see out of a player who is struggling.
Bounceback Year In 2023?
If there is a year for Savage to have a career year, 2023 is it. For him, it is a contract year. His play this year could land him a lucrative contract from either the Packers or another team. For the Packers, they did not upgrade the safety position as the draft was weak and the free agents weren’t affordable. Savage is the elder statesman in the bunch and if he can have a huge season, the defense might get back on track. With Jordan Love taking over, the defense really needs to help out their young quarterback.
The Green Bay Packers are hoping that late last season, Darnell Savage figured something out. If he can have a huge season in 2023, the Packers might have to think twice before letting him walk.
