The Green Bay Packers just received a boost for their offseason plans. They have a plethora of free agents to sign this offseason. The Packers are expected to try and bring back players Aaron Rodgers wants to play with next season. With the limited NFL salary cap space the Packers had going into the offseason, it looked the team would have trouble fitting all of the pieces together to make Rodgers happy.
Analysts suggested other pieces of the team could be annexed to make the cap numbers work. The Packers could save nearly $20 million in NFL salary cap room over the next two years by cutting running back Aaron Jones. Now the Packers might have an easier time justifying keeping important pieces like Jones.
The Green Bay Packers Will Benefit From New NFL Salary Cap
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the 2023 NFL salary cap will jump $16.6 million from 2022.
The NFL informed teams today that the 2023 salary cap will be a record $224.8 million per club, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
That’s up from $208.2 million in 2022, $182.5M in 2021 (COVID adjustment), 198.2M in 2020 and $188.2M in 2019.

That’s a significant increase from 2022. The Packers are currently shown to be about $16.5 in the red for 2023, according to Over The Cap.
The NFL salary cap space numbers (other than 2021 because of COVID-19) had been increasing by about $10 million a year before 2023. Pelissero reported that the cap should continue to rise in coming years with added games and new media contracts.
The CBA is a revenue-sharing deal, and new media contracts, 17th game, etc., are all contributing to a rise that should continue.
The league anticipates it will will provide more info concerning total projected costs, including player benefits, in early March. https://t.co/kW7SxD2Cm0

We’ll see in the coming months how the added NFL salary space affects the Green Bay Packers’ offseason plans. There will be a little more wiggle room to add the players they need. And if they want to keep Rodgers happy, bringing back veteran-free agents from the 2022 team that he still wants back in 2023 will help. The converse of using the extra cap to help Rodgers; the Packers might decide they want to use the expanded capital to rebuild the roster for Jordan Love.
