The Green Bay Packers are preparing for their matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.  Sitting at 3-6, the Packers are well out of playoff contention at this point in the season.  The Chargers are 4-5 and right in the mix of things when it comes to the AFC wild card spot.

As the Packers prepare for their future (as well as the rest of the season), they will continue to make adjustments.  Today, the Packers signed another 23-year-old that could be a role-player for the future of this team.

The Green Bay Packers have signed rookie inside linebacker Austin Ajiake to fill Innis Gaines’ practice squad spot.

Former UNLV product Ajiake originally signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Carolina Panthers, but never finialized the deal. A month later, he signed with the Denver Broncos after being picked up by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL.

During the pre-draft process, Ajiake signed a practice squad contract with the Las Vegas Raiders after being released by the Broncos at cutdowns. Several reports indicated he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and jumped had a 38.5″ vertical. Ajiake was released from the Raiders’ practice squad last week.

What Does Ajiake Bring To The Packers?

Ajiake played 671 special teams snaps for UNLV last season, a part of the game where he will likely see his first snaps if he ever gets activated for the Packers’ gameday roster.

The only two inside linebackers on the practice squad are Ajiake and Christian Young, who signed in-season. Accordingly, Arron Mosby, an outside linebacker, contributed mostly to special teams as a hybrid playmaker during the preseason.
