The Green Bay Packers, like all NFL teams, had their 2024 regular season schedule released this week. Also like other teams, the Packers released their schedule on social media in an entertaining video. A couple of years ago, Green Bay’s social media team came under fire from David Bakhtiari for how lame their video was compared to other teams’. This video had him in proud proverbial tears.
And as is the case following the release of the schedule, many have gotten to work predicting season records and identifying which games they find the most interesting. PFF recently posted an article of 10 regular season games that could end up defining the whole 2024 NFL season, and one Packers game was included.
PFF Claims the Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears in Week 18 Could Define the NFL Season
In the article, written by Bradley Locker, half of the 10 games listed consist of Kansas City Chiefs games. However, his last game, and the only one represented in Week 18, is the Packers’ season finale against the Bears at Lambeau Field.
Locker writes:
“The all-divisional Week 18 slate seldom disappoints, but the attention should be focused on this NFC North clash. Having added Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen, the Bears should make some real noise after four years of misery. Likewise, the Packers turned heads in 2023 with stupendous play from Jordan Love and as good of a coaching job as any by Matt LaFleur. Anticipate both Chicago and Green Bay to be right on the cusp of the NFC Wild Card, and this one could be win-or-go-home in Round 2 between Williams and Love.”
Obviously, Locker thinks quite highly of the revamped Bears offense that is going to be led by rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. To be fair, he does have a point about their nice group of pass catchers. However, it remains to be seen how good Williams will actually be in the NFL.
When Love was first drafted, he was a project without nearly as refined a game as what Williams has now. Last season, after three years behind Aaron Rodgers, people still wanted to “wait and see” before deeming Love the next franchise quarterback.
Williams seems to have been given that moniker in Chicago despite not having played a single NFL snap yet.
The Chicago Bears Have Not Beaten the Green Bay Packers in Half a Decade
For over a century, the Packers and Bears rivalry has been considered one of the best in all of sports. However, that rivalry has been pretty one-sided for the last 30 or so years, and the last five seasons have seen Green Bay absolutely dominate Chicago.
Since being hired as head coach in 2019, Matt LaFleur has never lost to the Bears. Dating back to his days playing in Washington, edge rusher Preston Smith has never lost to the Bears.
Of course, things change from season to season, and there will come a day that the Bears finally beat the Packers again. After all, they did squeeze out five wins in 29 games against Aaron Rodgers during his time in Green Bay.
And it could come this season, but just how good Chicago will be remains to be seen.
