There are always players on the Green Bay Packers roster who come out of nowhere every year and surprise people and then are those who take a step backward compared to the previous season. Last year, a perfect example would be Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson.
Many people expected Watson to take the next step at the position, but he missed eight games because of a hamstring injury. Many people are now questioning whether he will be healthy for his third NFL season or not.

Some players on this year’s roster could very well take a step backward. There are a few players on the Green Bay Packers roster that fit the bill.
Pro Football Network Anthony DiBona Thinks That Green Bay Packers Running Back A.J. Dillon Is a Regression Candidate For the 2024 Season

This is a very good choice by Pro Football Network’s Anthony DiBona. Another name that could have been chosen for the Green Bay Packers to regress this season is defensive end Preston Smith.
Last season, many people were wondering if A.J. Dillon was even going to return to the Green Bay Packers. He did decide to return to the team on a one-year deal. Dillon was the second running back on the roster last season and had to start some games in place of Aaron Jones due to injury.
DiBona said about Green Bay Packers running back A.J. Dillon possibly regressing this season:
“Surprise! Another running back makes the list, as the Green Bay Packers revamped the backfield this offseason. Although AJ Dillon is returning, his role will certainly be diminished. Thanks to the arrival of Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd, Dillon will likely be Green Bay’s third RB on the depth chart in 2024.”
For now, A.J. Dillon is listed second on the Green Bay Packers running back depth chart behind Josh Jacobs, but rookie Marshawn Lloyd will surpass Dillon eventually. Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich has praised the rookie running back throughout the offseason.

A.J. Dillon rushed for 613 yards on 178 carries and two touchdowns last season, averaging 3.4 yards per carry, He also caught 22 passes for 223 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 10.1 yards per reception.
There is a chance that the Green Bay Packers could trade A.J. Dillon at some point during the 2024 season. Dillon also missed the last regular season game and both postseason games due to injury.
