A former Green Bay Packers wide receiver made big headlines Tuesday after a report came out on his feelings after becoming an All-Pro last season. In a story by Mirin Fader with The Ringer, Davante Adams said that last season proved his greatness. He took a couple of seemingly unnecessary swipes at his former teammate Aaron Rodgers. NFL fans reacted to his comments on social media.
A former Green Bay Packers teammate speaks on quarterbacks
Adams made two cracks at the quarterback position in the interview, which happens to be Rodgers’ profession. Adams said that “a quarterback doesn’t make me” and that he “didn’t need Aaron Rodgers,”
Adams had a spectacular season with the Raiders. He put up stellar numbers with the Las Vegas Raiders. However, Adams did have the luxury of being thrown to by another elite quarterback. Adams played with quarterback Derek Carr last season. Carr is s four-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
Adams’ comments come off a little harsh towards Rodgers. (Fader reported that Adams was “frustrated” by the media’s sentiment about Adams’ success in Green Bay allegedly being due to Rodgers.) Adams still respects Rodgers, but Adams made sure to clear the air about how much he needs to rely on a quarterback to boost his numbers.
Adams’ sentiment is much different than Rodgers’. Rodgers spends quite a lot of time in interviews talking about how he needs pass catchers.
And fair enough to Adams. His numbers last year, minus Rodgers, were All-Pro worthy. However, Adams should check himself before this season, as the 30-year-old wide receiver plays with Jimmy Garoppolo. We’ll see if Adams can prove it again in 2023 with a much less decorated quarterback. Quarterbacks are important.
