Aaron Jones was a notable absence on Monday night for the Green Bay Packers as they suffered a disappointing 17-13 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Pro Bowl running back suited up against the Detroit Lions in Week 4, but he suffered an injury setback heading into Monday’s contest, thereby forcing him to sit out the game.
At this point, Green Bay are longing to get their star RB back ahead of their upcoming showdown against the Denver Broncos.
Green Bay Packers Coach Matt LaFleur Remains Optimistic on Aaron Jones
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke to reporters on Tuesday and he was asked about Jones’ status for the Broncos game. While the veteran shot-caller remained non-committal, it is clear that he is remaining optimistic:
“I sure as hell hope so,” LaFleur said of Jones’ status against Denver.
While this is far from confirmation regarding Jones’ availability, the fact that he will have nearly two weeks to recover from his knock bodes well for Jones’ chances of suiting up against the Broncos on October 22.
Green Bay gets a bye week for Week 6, which should give Jones enough time to recover from his injury. In fact, there could be some cause for concern if he’s unable to go against the Broncos.
Aaron Jones ‘Desperate’ to Play Against Raiders
After sustaining a hamstring injury in Green Bay’s season opener against the Chicago Bears, Jones ended up missing two straight games. He returned to action against the Lions, but his hamstring acted up again over the weekend. This led to the Packers opting to err on the side of caution with their star RB and give him the night off against the Raiders.
According to LaFleur, Jones was “desperate” to suit up against Las Vegas, but he just did not get the green light from the medical staff. LaFleur said that the team decided that it would be in Jones’ “best interest” to sit out Monday’s contest.
“(We have) 12 games in front of us, and we’re going to need him for the duration of those,” LaFleur said.
