The Green Bay Packers dismantled the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 on Sunday. Jordan Love went 16 of 21 for 271 yards and three touchdowns in the “House that Rodgers built.”
Love’s impressive performance on Sunday outlined how Green Bay was supposed to look throughout most of the season.
Green Bay has had trouble keeping all its young skill-position players healthy simultaneously. Whether it was RB Aaron Jones, star WR Christian Watson, or rookie TE Luke Musgrave, Green Bay hasn’t been whole this season.
Sunday, with Watson, Musgrave, or Jones in the lineup, Green Bay showcased its dynamic offensive attack and did whatever it wanted against the porous Dallas defense.
The Green Bay Packers took care of the Dallas Cowboys by running the football.
Some things never change. In 2017, when Aaron Jones was a little-known 5th-round rookie out of UTEP. He started the season behind Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams, and Davante Mays on the depth chart. That was until October 8, 2017, when Jones got his first NFL start against the Dallas Cowboys.
In his home state, Jones rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown in a thrilling 35-31 win vs the Cowboys. Since that day, Aaron Jones has haunted the Dallas defense, as on Sunday, Jones had 21 carries for 118 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards a carry.
Dallas’ defense was middle-of-the-pack this year, with opposing rushing defense, but based on Sunday’s atrocious performance, they made Aaron Jones look like Barry Sanders.
The other component to the Green Bay Packers’ thrilling victory yesterday.
Christian Watson didn’t have his vintage breakout performance like last season against the Dallas Cowboys, but what he did on Sunday won’t be in the stat sheet. After missing Green Bay’s final five games due to a hamstring injury, Watson urged Head Coach Matt LaFleur to play in the game on Sunday. Watson’s impact on the field wasn’t by catching passes but by simply being on the field.
Dallas doubled Watson most of the game, which created single coverage opportunities for Romeo Doubs against Stephon Gilmore. Doubs had his best game as a pro, catching six passes for 151 yards and one touchdown. Watson’s ability to stretch the field opened the passing game for Jordan Love and Co. to upset the Dallas Cowboys.
