Greece just saw their medal aspirations for the upcoming FIBA World Cup disappear right in front of their eyes after Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo officially withdrew from the prestigious tournament. The former back-to-back NBA MVP has not recovered in time from offseason surgery in his left knee, which has led to the tough decision of skipping the World Cup in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.
Bobby Portis Reacts to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s FIBA World Cup Withdrawal

Bobby Portis, who will be headed to the beautiful islands of the Philippines with Team USA, has given his honest reaction to his Bucks teammate being forced to sit out the World Cup. Both Team USA and Greece were drawn as part of Group C in the tournament and they are scheduled to face off on August 28th as part of the single round-robin group stage.
“Obviously I’m sad, he’s sad, that he can’t play in the World Cup, but maybe that’s good for the Bucks,” said Portis, via Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
It would have been great to see these two battle it out against each other on the international stage but unfortunately, this unwanted turn of events means that this won’t be the case.
Bobby Portis Looking to Make Impact for Team USA

Bobby Portis is far from the biggest superstar on Team USA’s packed roster. However, he is still expected to play a key role for the squad. The 28-year-old knows that he won’t be logging heavy minutes in the tournament, but at the same time, he intends to do whatever he can to help the team achieve its goal of bringing home a gold medal.
Portis is already an NBA champion. In a month’s time, he could potentially add a gold medal for Team USA to his impressive resume.
