Jamaal Williams is still a beloved player among Green Bay Packers fans even though he now plays for division rival Detroit Lions. In his second year with the Lions, Williams is having the absolute best season of his career. With the regular season coming to a close, he can achieve two incredible milestones against the team that drafted him into the NFL.
Jamaal Williams Could Achieve His First 1,000-Yard Season
Last night, Aaron Jones reached 1,000 rushing yards for the third time in his career. In two of those seasons, Jamaal Williams was his backup. Now, Williams, who shares a backfield with DeAndre Swift, is on the precipice of his own 1,000 yard season.
Going into Sunday’s regular season finale, Williams has 994 rushing yards. He needs just six more to reach that 1,000-yard plateau. Going into this season, the most rushing yards Williams had achieved in a single season was 601 last year. The most he had as a member of the Green Bay Packers was 556 in his rookie year (2017).
Jamaal Williams Can Tie or Break a Record Held by Barry Sanders
There is not a single player in the NFL that has scored more touchdowns this season than Jamaal Williams. Going into Week 18, he has an impressive 15 touchdown runs. If he gets just one more against the Packers on Sunday, he will tie the Lions’ franchise record of 16. That record was set by Barry Sanders in 1991.
