Well, the fantasy football waiver wire should be busy this week. If you have an FAAB or a priority list at a few key positions, it’s likely to be an active week in competitive leagues.
Fantasy football waiver wire
A huge return looms with quarterback Kyler Murray making his season debut Sunday. Also, with Week 9 in the rearview mirror – it was a dud for most position groups as far as making themselves waiver wire pickup-worthy. Not tight end, though, as many non-household names had standout performances. This is the position group that likely is popping in fantasy leagues as there are so few must-start tight ends.
If you don’t have Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, TJ Hockenson, Evan Engram, or George Kittle (even Kittle perhaps), you likely are open to adding a tight end. Well, a few guys look like viable options now in that position group.
Let’s get into guys to target on the waiver wire by position group.
Quarterback
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
If Murray wasn’t stashed in your league, go get him and get him in your lineup, especially if you are getting middling quarterback play or certainly if you are in a QB flex league. Murray has averaged over 20 points per game in fantasy over his career. Joshua Dobbs made himself a viable starter in Arizona in leagues, and Murray is a significant step above him.
Taylor Heinicke, Atlanta Falcons
Heinicke has shown himself – when he’s the starter – to be playable in QB-flex leagues. Heinicke is now the starter in Atlanta after Desmond Ridder was benched. Heinicke has some weapons around him and a solid running game, so Heinicke could be a sneaky, solid play down the stretch. He is a bench filler in one QB league, but in QB flex leagues, Heinicke should be a solid start going forward.
Will Levis, Tennessee Titans
The Titans offense continues to be scary outside Derrick Henry. However, the rookie Levis has looked like a solid NFL quarterback for a rookie. He has some matchups upcoming that make him passable as a flex play with the Colts and Dolphins on the docket in upcoming weeks.
Other options, if available: Derek Carr, Baker Mayfield
Running back
Tyler Allgeier
After Bijan Robinson was taken 8th overall, Allgeier seemed like an afterthought in Atlanta. No one told head coach Arthur Smith, though. aSh is coming off a 1,000-yard season last year but isn’t a flashy player. Smith, though, gives Allgeier touches early, in key situations and in the red zone, despite Robinson being the back of the future in Atlanta. Allgeier got back in the end zone again this week, his third of the season to go with 371 rushing yards on the year.
Allgeier is a must pickup if available in your league. He also has a favorable matchup against Arizona, who have been anemic against the run this year. If available, make a strong bid for Allgeier, who is one of fantasy’s top handcuffs also.
If available: Tyjae Spears, Titans; Emari Demercado, Cardinals
Wide receiver
Tank Dell
Dell has had an up-and-down season, but with the Texans and CJ Stroud tossing the ball all over the place, Dell is definitely worth a roster spot. Dell has missed a game due to injury, but in half of his games played, he has surpassed 20 points in PPR leagues. Dell has 28 catches (43 targets) for 454 yards and four touchdowns and has also received nine carries. The Texans clearly want to get Dell the ball.
If you have any questions about your wide receiver group, Dell is a strong fill-in matchup option. Also, he could be a pickup that wins you a fantasy championship. Why? He gets the Swiss cheese Titans defense in Weeks 15 and 17, a great matchup to see at fantasy playoff time!
Rashid Shaheed
Shaheed is a boom-or-bust guy. While he isn’t consistent, he could be a fill-in option and should be rostered. Shaheed is a big-play WR with 501 yards receiving and three touchdowns on just 26 catches, averaging over 19 yards per catch. It’s been a weird season for him with New Orleans for Shaheed, who has received inconsistent targets from starter David Carr. Recently, he has caught all six of his targets in the last two weeks while catching just four of eight targets for just 28 yards three weeks ago. Shaheed is worth a flyer and roster spot for a bye week option but isn’t likely to be a starter often.
If available: Josh Downs, Colts
Tight end
Luke Musgrave
It took perhaps longer than expected, but Musgrave reeled in his first career touchdown Sunday. Musgrave leads a youthful tight end room in Green Bay and looks like he’s starting to get some chances downfield with Packers’ first-year QB Jordan Love. The rookie tight end has caught 27 of his 35 targets for 249 yards and the lone touchdown. Musgrave led the Packers in receiving Sunday with 51 yards on three catches and a touchdown. I see Musgrave continuing to get targets in the Packers’ offense and likely becoming a viable red-zone option for Love.
Cade Otton
Cade Otton has 28 catches and three touchdowns on the year and continues to grow his repore with Mayfield seemingly. In a monster performance, Otton caught six of nine targets for 70 yards and two touchdowns last week. It marked his third straight game with eight or more fantasy points. If you have a tight end with a bye upcoming, Otton could be a viable option as a streaming option, at the very least.
If available: Logan Thomas, Trey McBride, Taysom Hill, Jake Ferguson – If any of these are available, add them now.
