Fantasy Football: These guys were “season-killers”
First of all, if you made the playoffs in your fantasy football league, congratulations! However, if you did not make it remember, that fantasy football can be a cruel, unfair game that can be based-off luck. Lick those wounds, clear your mind, and get ready to scout out future fantasy stars around July.
If you did not “make it”, it probably was because of these five guys. Let’s look at where they ended up vs where they started. (For preseason and current in-season ranks, I’m using Yahoo Rankings.) PPR or ½ point PPR or just touchdowns: for these guys it really didn’t matter. You probably spent a high pick on them and it did not go well.
Here are five guys that probably ruined your season, starting in order of “worst bust” to just a “bust”. Then, this piece ends with guys who were picked high but get an “injury-pass”. It is hard to be too upset when guys get injured.

Tony Pollard
As a player that was taken in the top-five overall in most fantasy drafts, Pollard has been a bust (63rd current rank). With 5 rushing TD’s and 800+ rushing yards he’d be worth a 4th or 5th round pick. But he certainly wasn’t worth the top-five pick many spent.
CeeDee Lamb ended up being the focal point of the Cowboys offense. Check out the “Your Fantasy Football MVP’s” for information on what a value Lamb was for fantasy owners.(Spoiler: Lamb was an incredible value.)
Dameon Pierce
A typical third round pick in most fantasy drafts, Pierce was also a huge non-injury “bust” on the season. Pierce ended up losing his job in Houston. Devin Singletary is now the “guy” in Houston.
Pierce has two rushing td’s. He is ranked (220) overall amongst Yahoo! player rankings. He has been a huge bust for managers who had faith he would lead the Texans rushing attack.
Davante Adams
When your quarterback can’t get you the ball, as a wide receiver, you are going to have some major problems. Especially, in fantasy football.
As a preseason top-ten pick, Adams is now (99) on the season. He is still wide receiver 4 on the year in Yahoo! rankings. Still, Adams has simply not been able to generate the statistics fantasy owners came to expect.
Mac Jones
A guy that was a reach in the middle rounds of most drafts, Jones turned out to be completely useless.
If you took him in your draft the quicker you moved on, the better. I’m guessing New England feels the same way.

Christian Watson
Going into most pre-drafts some a-typical advice was, “avoid Packer receivers because no one is sure what to expect from this offense.” But for many that still did not stop them from drafting Watson as high as the third round. Watson is now WR (54) on the year. (206 overall) It has worked out that Doubs and Reed had much better fantasy seasons.
Of course, Watson just simply couldn’t stay healthy. He began the year with a decent preseason rank (44). Now he is nowhere near what fantasy owners hoped for.
Guys who were “busts” but get an injury exemption
- Justin Jefferson- hard to be too mad here. Just bad luck.
- Nick Chubb- did you see that injury?
- Mark Andrews, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins
Happy Holidays! And again, if you are playing for a fantasy football championship best of luck! Have fun! You got this!
And if not, we’ll see you on those phones, laptops and devices next season.
