    Don’t Forget the Wisconsin Women!

The University of Wisconsin is the only school in the country with two women’s sports ranked number one. The Badgers’ volleyball team and women’s hockey team each hold the top spots in their respective sports. And this isn’t new; they’ve held these highest rankings for weeks.

At a university where successful men’s sports have consistently garnered national attention, it’s easy for some to look past the accomplishments of the women’s teams. However, the female athletes at Wisconsin should not be overlooked. Day in and day out they compete at an elite level, without the recognition or publicity their male counterparts receive.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged college athletes to adapt to obstacles changing the traditional seasons they’re accustomed to. While some have struggled, Wisconsin’s female athletes have thrived. The volleyball team has yet to lose a match all season, and the hockey team has competed against some of the nation’s best and come out on top. The same cannot be said for some of the most followed men’s teams. The football team struggled at times throughout their season. In addition, the men’s basketball team has had trouble with consistency this year. While this is to be expected, especially during a year with so many unknowns and obstacles, the Wisconsin ladies are must-see TV.

    When and How to Watch

Luckily for you, this weekend’s slate of games should be some of the best of the year. The top-ranked women’s hockey team takes on 12th ranked Minnesota – Duluth on Friday evening at five o’clock and Saturday afternoon at two o’clock. Both games can be streamed on the FloHockey website or app. Additionally, the top-ranked volleyball team takes on 5th ranked Nebraska on Friday night at seven o’clock and Saturday night at eight o’clock. Both games will be televised on the BIG 10 Network.

It’s time to give the Badger ladies the attention they so rightfully deserve. After all, these two teams have put the University of Wisconsin in a class of their own.
