Davante Adams is making headlines all over the NFL world for a couple of reasons. First, he correctly stated that he has proven to everyone that Aaron Rodgers is not the reason for all of his success. The fact that he was able to be named an All-Pro despite dreadful quarterback play in Las Vegas in 2022 is proof of Adams’ greatness. Second, Adams was publicly critical of the Raiders’ front office for not making what he felt were needle-moving transactions to help improve the team. The latter situation led some fans, even Raiders fans, to wonder if Adams could be traded by Las Vegas after just one season.

This would certainly be an unprecedented situation. After all, the Raiders gave up a first and second round pick to the Green Bay Packers in 2022 for Adams, and then signed him to a massive extension. Raiders insider Vic Talfur of The Athletic addressed these fan concerns in a recent mailbag article.
Las Vegas Raiders Insider Does Not Believe Davante Adams Will Be Traded

In his mailbag article, Talfur responded to a question from a fan asking if the Raiders could (or would) look into trading Adams:
“Adams has a dead cap hit of $31.4 million if traded this year and $23.6 million if traded next year, so that’s not in the cards right now.”
Talfur did note, however, that there is little chance that Adams will play out his contract with the Raiders:
“Adams, 30, doesn’t have time for a rebuild. He signed a five-year contract last year but knows he won’t be around in 2025 when the salary cap hit spikes to $44 million.”
From the sound of it, Las Vegas has two years with Adams (this season and next) to build a winner around him. He is, without question, the best offensive player that they have. The fact of the matter is that they cannot afford the dead cap hit if they were to trade him. Any notion of him going elsewhere between now and the 2025 offseason is just fantasy.
