A star running back is set to hit waivers this week in time for the Green Bay Packers to make a bid before their important Week 18 matchup with the Chicago Bears. The Packers will clinch a wild birth if they beat the Bears on Sunday.
The Packers have several offensive weapons injured in the late season. They signed Bo Melton to the 53-man roster Monday after they placed Samori Toure on injured reserve. Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks are all beat up heading into Week 18.
But the Packers’ major problem is in the backfield.
The Packers listed three running backs, Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson, on the injury report in Week 17. Jones has missed several games this season due to injury. Dillon suffered a stinger injury against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday night.
A Pro Bowl running back became available in Week 18
The Packers should look to add depth at running back for the playoffs, and a four-time Pro Bowl player just became a potential candidate. According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Jets agreed to part ways with Dalvin Cook.
Four-time Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook and the #Jets have mutually agreed to part ways, allowing Cook the opportunity to play for a playoff team, per his agency @LAASportsEnt.

Could the Green Bay Packers sign Cook?
Cook wants to play for a team where he can earn carries in the playoffs. The Packers would be a much more competitive team with Cook on their roster.
The Packers will need Cook to be patient this week if they have any chance of signing him. Cook likely wouldn’t sign with the Packers this week since the team isn’t guaranteed a playoff spot.
If Cook isn’t interested in other running-back-needy teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, Cook might be persuaded to join his former rival for a playoff push in Green Bay.
What would Aaron Rodgers make of that?
