The Green Bay Packers showed interest in a running back on Monday. The interest is coming at a time when running back Aaron Jones is hoping to increase his carries as he battles back from injury. The Packers were also mentioned in a report by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport regarding Jonathan Taylor.
The Packers were involved in trade talks regarding Taylor this preseason. However, the Packers quickly shut down conversations when the Colts wanted Christian Watson. The Packers were prepared to give up draft capital.
The Colts are opening up Taylor’s 21-day practice window for the disgruntled running back to come back from the PUP list. The Colts have until Week 8 to trade or place Taylor on the active list. Per Rapoport, “the Packers are no longer in the mix” to trade for Taylor in Week 5.
The Green Bay Packers are exploring other options at RB
The Packers are still looking to add at running back, even if they won’t trade for Taylor. According to Rob Demovsky with ESPN, the Packers worked out Northern Illinois running back Clint Ratkovich.
The Packers worked out former 1,000-yard rusher (with the Jaguars) James Robinson on Monday.
Other workouts were:
RB Clint Ratkovich (Northern Illinois)
LB Olakunle Fatukasi (Rutgers)
CB Thakarius Keyes (Tulane)
S Christian Young (Arizona)— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) October 2, 2023
Ratkovich is a UDFA who spent time with the Atlanta Falcons. Ratkovich played running back in college but was listed as a fullback on the Falcons preseason roster.
Ratkovich has not been signed as of this publishing. But we’ll see if the Packers sign him or former Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson this week.
