The Green Bay Packers will need to make sure they lock up quarterback Jordan Love to a contract extension before the start of the 2024 season. Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff received a four-year contract extension on Monday worth $212 million and $170 million of it will be guaranteed.
A lot of NFL fans were happy that Goff received his contract extension after the Los Angeles Rams bailed on him a few years ago for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
With Detroit making its move to give its quarterback a contract extension, Green Bay needs to make its move so it doesn’t become a distraction heading into this season. Last season with the Packers, he completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Jordan Love is becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He learned a few years behind Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers also learned a few years behind Brett Favre before he thrived in the NFL.
Love had a bumpy start to 2023 but he got going late in the season. Love helped the Packers get to the playoffs. They were the seventh seed in the NFC and they won a playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. They fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Former Green Bay Packers Offensive Lineman Bryan Bulaga Went Onto ESPN Milwaukee To Discuss the Jordan Love Contract Situation
On Monday, former Packers offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga went onto ESPN radio to talk about Love’s potential contract. He said:
“If I’m Jordan Love and his camp and I’m thinking the #Packers are only going to offer $150M guaranteed and they just gave Jared Goff a $170M, why would we settle for that much less on a 4 or 5-year deal?”
Bulaga has a fair point because it wouldn’t make sense to give him less money than Goff. Green Bay does not have to pay anyone else other than Jordan Love for at least a couple of years. The Packers are the youngest team in the NFL and they have talent all over the place.
Brad Nortman also chimed in on ESPN radio about the Love contract situation by saying:
“I don’t see how this gets done under $53M [per year].”
It would not be a surprise to see Love as the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL before the 2024 season. Green Bay has a decision to make before the start of the season. Pay him now whatever he wants or let this linger into the season and make it a total distraction. The choice is yours general manager Brian Gutekunst.
