Packers receiver Christian Watson suffered a right hamstring injury in Sunday’s game against the Giants. However, Packers head coach Matt Lafluer says he has no long term concerns about it. Watson was held out of practice on Wednesday as a precaution.
Possible Overcompensation?
Earlier this summer, the Packers rookie missed Organized Team Activities and all of training camp while recovering from ACL surgery on his left knee. Nine times out of ten when an athlete suffers any type of ligament or soft tissue injury, it can take a while for the body to be 100% depending on the severity and the body has a tendency to overcompensate and use one side of the body more than the other.
Packers Offense in Need of Production
Through the first five weeks of the season, the Packers offense ranks 22nd in points per game, averaging 19.4. Watson himself will hope to get more involved as the season progresses. So far through five weeks, he has caught seven passes for a total of 52 yards and has had three rushing attempts for 19 yards and a touchdown. When he’s 100% healthy, head coach Matt Lafluer and quarterback Aaron Rodgers need to find ways to get him going. Romeo Doubs and Allen Lazard can only do so much when it comes to the passing game.
Closing Thoughts
Moving forward, Packer fans should keep an eye on Christian Watson’s health. But at the same time, I do not have any long term concerns. I have a feeling he will have a bigger role in the offense as long as Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur are willing to give him opportunities. He has elite speed running a 4.3 40 yard dash at last year’s scouting combine. He can be dangerous when used in the proper role.
