It was an exciting start to the week in Minnesota as the Brewers battled the Twins. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Twins Game One:
Final Score: 7-5 Twins
Corbin Burnes was on the mound for Milwaukee and went up against Minnesota’s Pablo Lopez. Both starters had nearly identical lines, Burnes and Lopez each went six innings and allowed three earned runs, the only difference was Lopez notching nine strikeouts rather than Burnes’ eight.
Milwaukee came to hit in the loss and got it started in the third inning with a two-run double courtesy of Christian Yelich. The double was followed up with an RBI single off the bat of Rowdy Tellez. After that Milwaukee remained quiet until the seventh inning when Christian Yelich struck again with a two-run home run, which gave Milwaukee a 5-2 lead. Unfortunately, some earned runs allowed by Devin Williams resulted in Milwaukee dropping game one.
Brewers vs. Twins Game Two:
Final Score: 4-2 Twins
Colin Rea toed the slab for Milwaukee in game two against Minnesota’s Bailey Ober. Rea allowed four earned runs over his five innings of work, a rather pedestrian start. Ober on the other hand worked six innings of two-run ball. Milwaukee’s lone two runs of the game came off of solo home runs, one from Brian Anderson and the other from Luis Urias. The poor start from Rea and lack of hitting resulted in yet another loss for Milwaukee.
Takeaways:
The Brewers are continuing to slide, after getting swept by the Oakland Athletics they followed it up by getting swept in this two-game series against the Twins. The sputtering offense has been the main issue over this stretch. Game one showed some promise but ultimately was dropped by Devin Williams, let’s hope Milwaukee can take the positives from game one into their next series against the Pittsburg Pirates.
