It was an exciting weekend in Cincinnati as the Brewers battled the Reds. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Reds Game One:
Final Score: 1-0 Brewers
In the opening game of the series between Milwaukee and Cincinnati, Corbin Burnes got the start for the Brewers, while Graham Ashcraft took the mound for the Reds. Burnes showed his prowess by pitching six impressive innings, striking out 13 batters, and keeping the Reds from scoring any runs. Ashcraft, on the other hand, held his ground for six innings, allowing only one run. Milwaukee managed to score their lone run with a clutch RBI single by Victor Caratini in the seventh inning. The game remained intense until the end, but Devin Williams secured the save, sealing the victory for Milwaukee in game one.
Brewers vs. Reds Game Two:
Final Score: 3-0 Brewers
In game two of the series, Freddy Peralta took the mound for Milwaukee, going up against Cincinnati’s Andrew Abbott. Peralta was in exceptional form, allowing just one hit during his six innings of pitching. Abbott also put up a strong performance, giving up only two runs in his six innings on the field.
The game’s offensive spark came early, as Christian Yelich blasted a solo home run in the first inning, giving Milwaukee an early lead. In the fourth inning, William Contreras added to the Brewers’ score with another impressive home run, making it 2-0. The scoring was concluded with Owen Miller‘s solo home run.
The game remained tightly contested until the end, but Milwaukee held on to their lead. Devin Williams stepped up once again, securing his second save of the series and sealing the victory for the Brewers.
Brewers vs. Reds Game Three:
Final Score: 4-3 Brewers
In the series finale, Milwaukee’s sinkerballer, Adrian Houser, took the mound, facing off against Ben Lively. While Houser’s start appeared ordinary on paper, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three earned runs, it doesn’t quite reflect his actual performance. Most of the damage came from one poor pitch, and he could have gotten through the sixth inning if not for an unfortunate error made by Andruw Monasterio. Nevertheless, Houser managed to keep Milwaukee in the game.
The offensive spark for the Brewers came from none other than Christian Yelich, who struck with a solo home run in the third inning. Yelich continued to make an impact, driving in another run with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. Later in the game, Owen Miller and Andruw Monasterio orchestrated a rally. Miller tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, and Monasterio came through with an RBI single, giving the Brewers the lead.
Once again, Devin Williams displayed his reliability, securing his third save in as many days, as Milwaukee completed a sweep, walking away with a well-deserved victory.
Takeaways:
The Milwaukee Brewers showcased their resilience and firepower, completing a well-deserved sweep against the Cincinnati Reds. Solid performances from Christian Yelich and timely contributions from Owen Miller and Andruw Monasterio were instrumental in securing the victories. Despite a somewhat pedestrian outing from Adrian Houser, the Brewers’ bullpen, led by the reliable Devin Williams, played a crucial role in preserving the leads. As the Brewers celebrate this impressive series triumph, they now shift their focus to their upcoming challenge against the Philadelphia Phillies.
