Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is having a career year. He has put up personal bests in several offensive categories and is doing so in a contract year. History tells us that he has earned a contract much larger than the Brew Crew will be willing to offer, so as he exited his final 2024 regular season game fans gave him a much deserved standing ovation.
Willy Adames established new single season career highs in seven offensive categories.
2024 has been a special year for Willy Adames. Throughout history only three other shortstops have had seasons consisting of 30+ home runs, 100+ RBIs, and 20+ stolen bases. Staying healthy and playing in 161 games this year played a big factor, but here are the other six categories in which he established new career bests: hits (153), walks (73), stolen bases (21), doubles (33), home runs (32), and RBI (112).
Milwaukee Brewers fans gave Willy Adames a standing ovation as he exited Sunday’s game.
In the middle of the seventh inning Brewers manager Pat Murphy removed Willy Adames from the game. This gave fans an opportunity to embrace him with a standing ovation. His teammates also acknowledged him with several hugs and handshakes.

Manager Pat Murphy planned for Willy Adames to leave in the middle of the inning.
Pat Murphy, Brewers Manager, felt it was important for the fans to get a chance to embrace Willy Adames and show their appreciation. He did this by intentionally waiting until the middle of the inning to take him out.
“Chances are that’s his last regular season game in a Brewer uniform and everybody knows that. I wanted him to feel that, feel the appreciation and I wanted the fans to get a chance to do that”

The Brewers will host the Wild Card Series, so Milwaukee fans will still have an opportunity to see Willy Adames at American Family Field during their playoff run. Once the season is over he will become a free agent and he will be the top choice among available shortstops.
