It was an exciting weekend in Milwaukee as the Brewers battled the Pirates. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game One:
Final Score: 5-4 Brewers
It was a veterans battle in game one, Julio Teheran was on the mound for Milwaukee against Pittsburgh’s Rich Hill. Teheran tossed six innings of two-run ball and Hill scattered three runs over five innings.
Milwaukee got the offense started right away in the first inning when Christian Yelich scored on a walk and Blake Perkins had a two-run single. Milwaukee would add on again in the fourth inning with an RBI double off the bat of William Contreras. In the sixtieth inning, Joey Wiemer finished off the scoring when he cracked his ninth home run of the season. Devin Williams polished off his eleventh save and Milwaukee broke their losing streak in game one.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game Two:
Final Score: 5-0 Brewers
Wade Miley was back on the bump after suffering an injury and faced off against Pittsburgh’s Mitch Keller. Miley looked stellar, over five innings of work the southpaw allowed just two hits and no runs.
Milwaukee got to Keller for four runs, two of which came in the third inning when Joey Wiemer clubbed a two-run home run, his second home run of the series. In the fifth inning, Milwaukee added on two more courtesy of Rowdy Tellez’s two-run double. In the eighth inning, Blake Perkins capped off the scoring with a solo home run.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game Three:
Final Score: 5-2 Brewers
Freddy Peralta got the ball for Milwaukee and faced off against Pittsburgh’s Luis Ortiz. Both starters had solid starts, Peralta allowed two earned runs over six innings and Ortiz allowed just one over 4.2 innings.
Milwaukee trailed most of this game, their first run came in the fifth inning courtesy of Jesse Winker’s RBI single. A big eight-inning rally won the game, William Contreras tied it up with an RBI single and then a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ramiel Tapia gave Milwaukee the lead. The hit that really broke the game open was Luis Urias’ two-run single. After that, Devin Williams notched another save to cap off the sweep.
Takeaways:
This was a very strong series for Milwaukee, after the losing streak it was nice to see some wins for sure. There really isn’t anything that wasn’t done proficiently by Milwaukee, it was just solid execution all around. Let’s hope they can take this into their series against the Diamondbacks.
