Willy Adames’ Importance to the Brewers
Adames has an argument for being the Brewers’ best player from last season. He is elite defensively and provides serious power at the plate. Ever since he arrived in Milwaukee, he’s been one of the best hitters on the team and was second on the team in home runs in 2022. Additionally, Adames’ impact on the clubhouse has a big impact on the team that won’t show up in the stat book.
In 2022 Adames slashed .238/ .298/ .458 and had 31 home runs. He set the franchise record for home runs at the shortstop position and left his name in the teams’ history books.
What’s Next for Adames
Obviously, the team will want to sign Adames to a long-term extension. He has also mentioned how he would love to stay in Milwaukee, but the market at the position may end up leading to a parting of ways. This offseason some big-name short stops have signed massive contracts, and if it’s an indication of what Adames could make, the Brewers may not be willing to open up the checkbook.

Trae Turner signed an 11-year/ 300 million dollar contract with the Phillies. Xander Bogaerts signed an 11-year/ 280 million dollar contract with the Padres. Dansby Swanson signed a 7-year/ 177 million dollar contract with the Cubs. The price at the position for a premium player may be too high for the Brewers. However, the team has managed to avoid arbitration and agree to a number for the 2023 season.
