Six names grace the façade at Lambeau Field. One name, Brett Favre, is reportedly in Jeopardy of being taken down as more details surface in the Mississippi welfare scandal his name has been connected with. Favre was central to an investigative report published Thursday by Michael Rosenberg with Sports Illustrated.
A bombshell report dropped on Brett Favre’s involvement
The report seems to indicate Favre was more integral to the scandal than he has let on publicly. The report states Favre acted as more of a “ringleader,” and his constant demands for grant cash were the “driving force” for the illegal funds in a case that has seen multiple people plead guilty.
Favre has not been charged with a crime. The report by Rosenberg seems to indicate Favre and a couple of other political higher-ups would be one of the last “dominoes” to be indicted, as investigators usually work their way up the ladder. Favre, hypothetically, could be in a better position to provide testimony to the DOJ to help indict a politician at the top of the scandal.

The report seems to suggest a text message sent by Favre to an accused participant after their arrest was bizarre if Favre was shocked, betrayed, embarrassed, or angry that they had played an unfair role in connecting his name to the crime.
The Green Bay Packers are “monitoring” the controversy
It’s a heavy read but worth it. The implications could create more damage to Favre’s reputation. He’s brought a couple of lawsuits for defamation related to the welfare case, one against Pat McAfee, which he later dropped, and another against Shannon Sharpe. But there’s only so much Favre can do to keep his name clear in today’s media and social media landscape. And the Green Bay Packers are taking notice.

According to Bill Huber with Sports Illustrated, the Packers are “monitoring” reports as they become public about Favre’s connection to the scandal. Huber hints it’s possible Favre could lose his name on the façade at Lambeau Field:
“With Favre embroiled in an alleged welfare fraud scheme, allegations that could lead to the three-time MVP’s indictment in his home state of Mississippi, will the Packers continue to list Favre among their legendary players?
It’s possible, though the team isn’t close to making a determination one way or the other. The club is monitoring the unfolding controversy – the latest details emerging in a Sports Illustrated investigation – but haven’t held any discussions because Favre hasn’t been indicted or charged, let alone found guilty.”
That would be a crushing loss for Favre. The details that have surfaced recently don’t paint a rosy picture for the Hall of Fame quarterback. But it’s essential to remember Favre is not guilty of a crime in this case. But his legacy in the public eye isn’t up to a judicial court.
