The lawsuit between former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre and media personality Pat McAfee appears to be over. Favre had brought a lawsuit in February against McAfee and Shannon Sharpe for alleged defamation in relation to a welfare scandal story that went viral last year.
Per WSH Media files, Favre has not been charged with a crime, but he has received harsh public scrutiny in relation to the largest welfare scandal in Mississippi history:
“Brett Favre has faced heavy public scrutiny in recent months related to a welfare scandal in Mississippi. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback had his name connected in relation to the scandal, where he is alleged to have coordinated with officials to secure TANF funding for a wellness center at Southern Mississippi.
Favre has not been charged with a crime. The Hall of Fame quarterback is now seeking retribution for alleged defamation by two media members”
Brett Favre announces update on the lawsuit
On Thursday, Favre made an announcement on his Twitter account about the lawsuit against McAfee. Per his statement, Favre wrote that he had “settled” the lawsuit with McAfee:
“I’m happy that Pat McAfee and I have settled this litigation. Like Pat said, he was attempting to be funny and not commenting based on any personal knowledge. We’d both much rather talk about football.”

Pat McAfee provided an update earlier Thursday
McAfee addressed the update on the lawsuit on his own show earlier Thursday. It appears via the message and timestamp that McAfee’s statement Thursday was part of the agreement made for Favre to draw the lawsuit against McAfee.
“As I confirmed in my court papers and I repeat here, my statements expressed in comedic style were based solely on public statements and allegations,” McAfee said.
“As I have previously stated, I respect the hell out of Brett Favre the football player and his Hall of Fame career on the field, and I have no personal knowledge about any case involving Brett in Mississippi. I am pleased to report that based solely on me again clarifying these points now, with no settlement paid, Brett is withdrawing his suit against me. I would much rather talk about sports that about lawsuits, so I’m glad that we have all of this behind us. We now move on.”
