The Green Bay Packers have decided to pick up Darnell Savage’s fifth year option. The Packers keep the Safety in Green Bay through the 2023 season:
The Packers are expected to pick up the fifth-year option on safety Darnell Savage, according his agent Seth Katz of @AMGPROSPORTS. Should be official and filed with the league soon.
Expect the same for Rashan Gary.

Green Bay solidified the front of their defense by drafting LB Quay Walker and DT Devonte Wyatt last night. The remaining “hole” is safety depth. The Green Bay Packers have one of the better safety duos in the NFL with Amos and Savage, however finding someone to play that third safety stop will be tricky. It became obvious last year that Joe Barry loves to run with three safeties on the field.
After an extremely strong 2019 season, and a great second half of 2020, Savage was hit or miss in 2021. By the traditional stats, in 2021 Savage ranked third on the team with nine passes defensed, tied for third with two interceptions and was fourth with 63 tackles. He dropped three interceptions – one off the most in the NFL. Had he made one or two of those plays, including a potential game-changer at Minnesota in November, the narrative around his season might have been different.
This extension shows that Green Bay has faith in the Safety to get back to his pro-bowl caliber play. Savage has a lot left in the tank.

Defense can win games. Wide receives will fall into place with (9) picks: I think that’s correct. This season a great offense and now a greater defense. GO. PACK GO.
