Wisconsin star Johnny Davis is headed to the Nation’s Capitol. With the tenth pick in the NBA draft, the Washington Wizards selected the former La Crosse standout Davis. Johnny bursted on to the National scene last year with some impressive scoring outputs. He carried a supposedly “undermanned” Badger team to a share of the Big Ten Championship. Johnny averaged 19.7 points per game, to go along with eight rebounds and two assists per game. He really stepped up when the lights were bright. Averaging 24 points per game against top-25 opponents. Going from role player to in the conversation of National Player of the Year, earned Davis a lottery pick projection for this draft.

With the news breaking of Bradley Beal declining his player option, it was almost a no brainer that if Johnny was available at number 10 he would be taken. In an article earlier this month, I talked about Johnny’s workout with the Wizards. I think this can be a great fit, with the young movement going through that organization. With the possibility of not having Bradley Beal, Johnny could fill in at that starting shooting guard role. If Beal stays, a backcourt of Davis and Beal would be so much fun to watch.
I am so happy for Johnny Davis. A great representation of Wisconsin basketball, Davis proved that a homegrown player can stay with the Badgers and still achieve their NBA dreams.
