The Green Bay Packers continue to make changes prior to their season opener vs the Chicago Bears. Jordan Sigler of Wisconsin Sports Heroics reported yesterday that the Packers moved on from running back Tyler Goodson. Today it was reported that the Packers have moved on from a second running back.
The Green Bay Packers Release RB Lew Nichols Prior To Season Opener Vs Chicago Bears
As Aaron Wilson of NFL Network reported on Thursday, the Packers reached an injury settlement with Lew Nichols that will make him a free agent once he recovers from a shoulder injury.
The fact that Lew Nichols led the NCAA in rushing in 2021 is not widely known since he was selected in the seventh round. In that season, he rushed for 1,848 yards and 16 touchdowns. Perhaps that’s because playing at Central Michigan did not get him the kind of publicity he might have received if he had attended a Power Five school. Regardless, there is a reason why he was so effective in college.
However, with the stacked backfield in Green Bay, he wasn’t able to crack a roster spot. Of course, their backfield is led by one of the best duos in the league with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Preseason breakout running back Emmanuel Wilson was able to crack the 53-man roster after his impressive performances.
While this move doesn’t come as a surprise, it will be interesting to see where the Central Michigan star lands.
