The Green Bay Packers will once again be heading into an off-season that could see multiple changes on offense. While the core seems to be set, there are a few outliers that will certainly be playing football elsewhere in 2024.
Fans and analysts alike have widely concluded that at least one running back will be gone. Now that running back is being linked to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Could Find Himself With The Los Angeles Chargers In 2024
Alex May of Bleacher Report highlighted how Dillon could wind up with an AFC Team in 2024:
After playing in the shadow of Aaron Jones for the last four seasons, AJ Dillon could finally burst out in 2024. The 6’0″, 247-pound running back had done well with his limited touches until disappointment struck this past season.
Despite earning the largest snap share of his career and drawing six starts, Dillon averaged only 3.4 yards per carry.
Dillon could land with a cash-strapped team hoping to get starter-caliber production at a backup cost. Predicted to earn just $3.5 million annually on his second contract, the 25-year-old makes sense for the Los Angeles Chargers—a franchise that is likely to part ways with Austin Ekeler and is more than $25 million over the cap at the onset of the new league year.
Will The Packers Move On From AJ Dillon?
There may not be a single player on the Packers’ roster who the public has already deemed the fate of more than AJ Dillon.
It was a fair assumption when the Packers selected AJ Dillon with the 62nd overall selection in the 2020 draft that he would eventually take over as the lead back. Investing in a running back in the second round is a serious decision.
Despite this, Dillon has completed his rookie contract and Aaron Jones continues to play the lead back position. Despite having a 49.8 percent opportunity share last year, the 25-year-old has never been able to take over as the team’s top running back.
Keeping Jones and investing resources into the running back position via trade, free agency, or the 2024 NFL Draft seems like the most likely scenario.
