When NFL players retire, it is always interesting to see what they do. While some will go into coaching or the broadcast booth, others tap into other passions outside of football. One former Packer, Blake Martinez, is doing just that. He is making millions outside of football in a unique way, his new company Blake’s Breaks.
Blake Martinez Opens A Card Shop
After Martinez retired from the NFL after seven seasons, he decided to start his own company. Blake’s Breaks is a trading card company that specializes in Pokemon cards. It has proven to be quite lucrative. The company has only existed since last summer and it already is showing huge profits. Reportedly, the company has brought in over $5 million selling Pokemon cards with one card netting $675,000 alone.

Martinez Seems Very Happy
Blake Martinez talked about how running a store feels like running a team defense so he feels right at home. He also appreciates how his body feels. Martinez was forced to retire early as injuries plagued him in the back half of his career. “Every single day when I wake up, my shoulder doesn’t hurt and my back doesn’t hurt anymore,” Martinez said in an interview. He seems very content with his decision to switch career paths.
This is really cool to see. Often when people retire from football, they seem lost. Football has been their life for the last 30 years and they do not know what to do without it. Martinez has pivoted well and seems to have found another passion in Blake’s Breaks.
