The Packers offense reportedly struggled at times against the Cincinnati Bengals defense at joint practices
The Green Bay Packers are in Cincinnati for joining practices with the Bengals ahead of the preseason opener this weekend. While it’s not an official game, it’s still action on the field against another team which is valuable.
During Wednesday’s joint practice, however, it appears as if the Bengals defense was presenting a big challenge for the Green Bay offense.
Pro Football Focus analyst Sam Monson is at the practices and tweeted out an interesting observation that the Bengals’ defense was ‘suffocating’ the Packers’ offense:
Second year in a row the Bengals D has been suffocating another team's offense during joint scrimmages.
Last year it was the Rams. This year Green Bay can barely get a first down.

While that might have been the case for part of the practice, Monson did note that the Packers were able to gain some ground and impressed at times as well.
Here is what he said about Green Bay’s success in the red zone:
Packers offense warmed up a bit in the red zone, had much more success

It is only joint practice but it’s nice to see Jordan Love and the offense respond with a nice sequence on offense, showing that they can compete against what some believe will be one of the best defensive in the AFC.
Now, the Green Bay offense will get a full look at this defense on Friday night and that will be just a little more of a test with actual game action. Let’s hope the Packers can come out and perform early in the preseason.
