Injuries continue to plague the 2021 Milwaukee Brewers.  Between injuries and the COVID IL, the continued game of get a few players back and then losing some continues.  Most recently, John Curtiss and Angel Perdomo were sent to the IL and Justin Topa was activated. It is also worth noting that reliver Josh Hader is expected to be activated off the COVID IL on August 12th.  The activation should occur prior to the series finale against the Cubs. Corbin Burnes is a legit Cy Young candidate this season.  In his last start he again remonstrated that by tying a MLB record and setting two new franchise records!  In tying the MLB record of 10 consecutive strikeouts in a row, he now owns that franchise record.  Additionally, he set the franchise record for strikeouts in a game without allowing a walk. Entering a four game series vs the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers had a few questions marks regarding their starting rotation.  It all started last week when Adrian Houser and Eric Lauer were placed on the COVID IL. They were projected to start Tuesday and Wednesdays games.  Monday nights game was post-posted and afterwards it was announced that Aaron Ashby will get a second chance vs the Cubs on Tuesday. Every year there are crazy stories and insane stat lines that occur in the minor leagues.  This year, Brewers prospect Joey Wiemer has put together not only a good season, but a ridiculous four game stretch.  Lets check in for a minor league update on how he is doing. The injury bug has not been kind to the Milwaukee Brewers this season.  Earlier, following a string of injuries, the Brewers lost both Daniel Vogelbach and Travis Shaw within two week of one another.  Thankfully both seem to be recovering well and are currently on a minor league rehab assignment.  Lets check in on how each of them are doing. Since the departure of Prince Fielder, first base has been a revolving door for the Brewers.  This year has been no different.  Earlier in the season, Keston Hiura, Travis Shaw, Daniel Vogelbach, and Jace Peterson received majority of the playing time at the position.  Most recently it has been Rowdy Tellez at first base.  Since joining the Brewers, he is having success at the plate. The calendar has officially switched to August and the Milwaukee Brewers find themselves in a great position in the standings.  However, more recently, one big impeding factor has been health of the players due landing on the COVID IL.  So far the bullpen has been hit the hardest, which means other relievers will need to step up as these numbers rise. The 2021 Milwaukee Brewers have been led by a dominant pitching staff, being responsible for a large part of the team’s success. At times, the offense has showed sign of life, but for the most part, they have disappointed.  However, In July the Brewers had one of the best offenses in baseball. With the All-Star break being in July, the Brewers played 24 games last month. 14 of their July games came against the Pirates and Reds. The MLB trade deadline has come and passed.  Teams can no longer trade with one another to help bolster their roster, but an alternative option remains for teams to improve.  That is September call ups in which often times prospects are the ones who get called up. Due to recent rule changes, the maximum amount of players a teams can carry in September this year is 28.  That player must be on the teams 40 man roster.  If that player is on the 40 man roster prior to August 31, they would then be play-off eligible. The 2021 Milwaukee Brewers have been lead by a dominant pitching staff.   Opening day starter Brandon Woodruff currently has a 2.14 ERA, Corbin Burnes 2.12, and Freddy Peralta 2.17!  After his last start, Freddy Peralta has surpassed Nolan Ryan for a MLB record!
