adrian houser shutout 9.4.21

The 2021 baseball season has been labeled as the year of the pitcher.  For the Milwaukee Brewers, their starting rotation has been headlined by three great players in Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, and Freddy Peralta.  On Saturday night, it was Adrian Houser who made history as he was able to throw the teams first shutout in seven years. With throwing a complete game shutout, Houser snapped the longest streak of games without one by a team in MLB history.  The last Brewers to throw a shutout was Kyle Lohse during the 2014 season. Regardless of this seasons outcome, one lesson the Milwaukee Brewers have learned this year is that depth matters at every position.  With the regular season rapidly drawing to a close, Stearns is continuing to add depth.  Most recently, Keon Broxton was signed to a minor league contract. The Brewers have signed Keon Broxton to a Minor League contract. — Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) September 1, 2021 This signing marks the third time that Broxton had re-joined the Brewers organization.  He initially was acquired via trade in 2015 and enjoyed a few years in the major leagues.  A trade in 2019 sent…

Over the past few seasons Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell has made a name for himself during the month of September.  Given all of his previous success, fans have now trademarked September first as the start of “Craigtember”.  With that being said, let quick review Counsell’s history in September and what to expect this year. Counsell’s History in September  Between 2018 and 2020, all play-off seasons, Counsell has a managerial record of 52-29 in September.  In 2018, the Brewers chased down the division rival Chicago Cubs thanks to a 19-7 September record.  They forced a game 163 to determine the…

Previously, Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell has utilized September call ups to construct bullpens with a plethora of relief pitchers.  Unfortunately, recent rule changes now prevent this.  In 2021, only two additional players can be carried on the active roster during the month of September. Currently, there is a lot of speculation about which players will and will not get called up.  It makes sense that at least one spot will go to a pitcher, if not both.  With that being said, the Brewers do have two relief pitchers who are deserving of second chances in the big leagues this…

Entering the 2021 season, the Milwaukee Brewers had perhaps one of the deepest outfields on paper.  As a whole, the outfield group has under performed to its high expectations.  Chrisitan Yelich and Lorenzo Cain missed a lot of time earlier in the season due to injury and Jackie Bradley Jr is yet to get it going offensively.  However, Avisail Garcia may be having his best season yet. After a poor 2020 season, Avisail Garcia put in a lot of work with hitting coach Andy Haines.  In addition to this, Garcia cut sugar out from his diet and lost a lot…

The Milwaukee Brewers currently have a record of 72-47.  As a franchise, the Brewers record for wins in a regular season is 96.  The 2011 Brewers initially set this record and it was accomplished again in 2018.  It did take the 2018 team 163 regular season games to get 96 wins. This year, the Brewers are set up nicely to chase the franchise record for wins in a single season! For the 2021 Brewers, it has been an all hands on deck approach.  The team was plagued by injuries early on in the season, but found ways to win.  Recently,…

For a while now, we have known that the Milwaukee Brewers had a few tough roster decisions looming.  Reports are now indicating that Travis Shaw is currently in the waiver process. This means that rather than activating Shaw to the 26 man roster, he was removed from the 40 man roster and was designated for assignment.  If he clears the waiver process he could be outrighted to a minor league affiliate with the Brewers, likely Triple-A.  He also could decline and elect to play elsewhere/enter free agency. Travis Shaw is in waiver process, have heard as @pgammo mentioned yesterday. He…
