The Brewers 2021 season was a fun one in which the 95 win team ended up winning the National League Central and making the play-offs for the fourth consecutive season. Over the course of the season, 61 different players were utilized. This broke the previous franchise record of 53. With that being said, president of baseball operations David Stearns had to orchestrate several moves during the season. Immediately, most think of the trades for Willy Adames, Rowdy Tellez, and Eduardo Escobar. However, there are a plethora of underrated moves that also helped this team. In this article, we will take…

The MLB is currently in a lockout, which means that no major league transactions can occur. Once a new CBA is reached, moves will once again be allowed. There currently is no timeframe for when this will occur, other than hopefully prior to the start of spring training. Prior to the lockout, the Brewers made a handful of under the radar signings. Pitchers J.C. Meja, Hobie Harris, and Trevor Gott were signed along with catchers Pedro Severino and Brett Sullivan. They also struck a pair of trades, one of which brought super utility infielder Mike Brosseau to the club. Lastly,…

Despite the MLB being in a lockout, rumors can still swirl. Recently, Joel Sherman wrote in an article that the Brewers reportedly had interest in first basemen Luke Voit and checked in on his availability. MLB trade rumors put together a synapsis of Joel Sherman’s article. In the article, he was speculating about options for the Yankee’s to consider post-lockout. He specifically states that “Milwaukee had interest in Voit previously”. He never says when the Brewers inquired about Voit. However, he did provide his rationale for a hypothetical trade that would send Voit to the Brewers in return for Lorenzo…

Just a day after the non-tender deadline and mere hours after the announcement that the MLB will enter a lockout starting December 2nd, the Brewers struck a deal with the Boston Red Sox. In this trade they sent Jackie Bradley Jr back to his former team along with prospects David Hamilton and Alex Binelas. Hunter Renfroe was the player acquired in return. JBJ had a very disappointing one year stint with the Brewers and as a result was a trade candidate this off-season. The biggest obstacle was finding a suitable partner to take on the remainder of his contract. In…

Activity in baseball has been crazy this year leading up to the non-tender deadline. This is solely due to ongoing collective bargaining agreements in which all signs are pointing to a lockout this off-season. Due to this, the non-tender deadline was moved up to November 30th. This year, the Brewers elected to non-tender first basemen Daniel Vogelbach and pitcher John Curtiss. Vogelbach was a fan favorite while in Milwaukee. Unfortunately for him, he ended up losing the first base job last year due to injury. As a result of his injury, the Brewers traded for Rowdy Tellez who ended up…

The Milwaukee Brewers currently have a great core of players who are either entering the arbitration process or are a few years in. Previously the non-tender deadline had been scheduled for December 1st. However, due to ongoing collective bargaining agreement discussions, it was moved up. Our season report card series continues. Here we will be looking at how Brandon Woodruff performed during the 2021 season. In 2018 and 2019, Brandon Woodruff had successful seasons as one of the top end starting pitchers in the Brewers rotation. This year, he took a huge step forward and established himself as one of the top pitchers in the league. As the teams opening day starter for the second year in a row, Woodruff went just four innings in his first outing while allowing three runs. After that, his next 10 starts from April 7th to May 30th were…

Positional versatility has always been a characteristic that Brewers President of Baseball Operations David Stearns values. He also tends to place a heavy emphasis on depth when putting together a roster to prepare for a 162 game season. Given that, current free agent Mark Canha would be a great fit for the Brewers. Where would Mark Canha fit in defensively? Canha has played seven major league seasons, all with the Oakland Athletics. In 2015 he was primarily a first basemen in which he logged 537 innings at the position. Since 2015, he has played just 203 innings there including just…

The deadline to add players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft was Friday afternoon. Unlike years prior, the Brewers did not add any players. In fact, the only move made was Mark Mathis being outrighted to Triple-A. With the transaction, the 40-man roster was reduced to 35 players. Mathias, a utility infielder, was considered a fringe opening day roster player prior to an injury in spring training. He eventually under went season ending shoulder surgery in May. It is not all that surprising that he was outrighted seeing how the Brewers recently…
