Spring training is a great time for optimism in the baseball world.  This year, major league ball players are unable to report to camp due to the ongoing lockout.  However, minor league players are beginning their preparations for the season.  With this new headlines and stories emerge, one of which revolves around pitching prospect Zack Brown. Brown, now 27 years old, was the Brewers 2018 MiLB pitcher of the year.  That year he made 22 starts in the minors and finished with a 2.40 ERA.  In 2019, he battled inflammation and discomfort in his shoulder.  The result was a 5.79…

The MLB lockout continuing to drag on into March has resulted in both major league spring training and regular season games being delayed.  Frustrating as this is, it does give us more time to focus on Brewers prospects/minor league players. [pickup_prop id=”21270″] In case you missed it, the Brewers started a build-up camp for younger prospects/recent draft picks.  Those in Arizona currently are select players who are not on the 40 man roster. The remaining minor league pitchers and catchers are arriving today March 5th.  Position players report March 11th and 12th.  Highlights out of camp so far have been…

The lockout instituted by the MLB Owners currently impacts players on the 40 man roster.  As for minor league ball players, business is still slated to go on as usual, which includes their opening day.  To help prepare, the Brewers recently announced a build-up camp for their top prospects and younger players. The camp will begin next week and will be held at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Arizona.  As mentioned, select players, mainly top prospects as well as players from recent drafts, will be in attendance.  This includes players such as: Sal Frelick, Ethan Small, Hedbert Perez, Tyler…

For years now Dan Szymborski has been sharing his projections on fangraphs.  He uses a model/system called ZiPS that estimates how players will perform prior to the upcoming season.  His projections for the 2022 Milwaukee Brewers are quite interesting.  Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Luis Urias graded out as the best offensive player. In 2021, Urias’s offensive performance seemed to go under the radar to those outside of Milwaukee.  Despite logging under 500 plate appearances, he clubbed 23 home runs and drove in 75 batters.  He finished with a 111 wRC+, which was similar to trade deadline addition Eduardo…

The Brewers front office is continuing to expand.  Most recently, former Milwaukee second basemen Rickie Weeks was hired to assist in player development.  Additionally former Pittsburg Pirates infielder Pedro Alvarez was brought on as an assistant in baseball operations and player development. https://twitter.com/WillSammon/status/1489630243874869253 Together, these two former players are bringing a ton of baseball experience to the front office.  Weeks played in the majors for 14 season with 11 of them being in Milwaukee.  He is a former second overall pick in the 2003 MLB draft.  In 2005 he finished sixth in rookie of the year voting and in 2011…

When it comes to putting together a competitive team that takes the field each and every night, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has done a fantastic job. It has always been clear that Stearns and the remainder of the Brewers front office was preaching organizational depth. That same principal, organizational depth, has now carried over into the front office. Per Ken Rosenthal, the Brewers have added former Philadelphia Phillies GM Matt Klentak to come on as a special assistant. What do we need to know about Matt Klentak? Klentak comes with an Ivy League background (Dartmouth). Coincidently, he began…

Last week it was announced that Brewers bullpen coach Steve Karsay was stepping away from his position. He cited spending more time with family as a big contributing factor. Today, the Brewers announced not only who will be replacing Karsay but also the addition of an infield and assistant hitting coach as well as assistant strength and conditioning specialist. None of these additions to the coaching staff should come as a surprise. A new bullpen coach was needed after Karsay stepped down and Jim Henderson was an expected favorite. Henderson pitched for the Crew during his major league career and…

This year, the International Signing Period began on January 15th, 2022. For those not familiar, this time is basically a free agent like signing period for international prospects. Prospects are typically very young and often times are in their teenage years, but it is a great opportunity for teams to expand and build minor league depth. The Brewers had $5,721,200 in funds to allocate to international prospects this year. They ended up signing 33 players to start the signing period. Two of the more well known names that committed to the Crew were Jhonny Severino and Johan Barrios. Both are…

Right now, it is easy to be missing baseball. The MLB lockout has snuffed out any news or rumors that typically would be swirling this time of the year. Currently, we all hope that baseball will start on time come opening day in Spring 2022. With the hopes of a full 162 game season in 2022, there are two Brewers records that may be broken. 1) Josh Hader Franchise Saves Total 2022 will be Hader’s sixth major league season. He has won reliever of the year three times throughout his career despite not becoming the Brewers primary closer until 2019.…

Across baseball, the Brewers have one of the most feared pitching staffs. The organization has a knack for developing great pitchers. They also do a great job at finding out what works best for each player in order to make them successful. As a team, the Brewers finished with the third lowest ERA in 2021. The starting rotation is headlined by Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes. Brandon Woodruff finished fifth in Cy Young voting and third starter Freddy Peralta did not pitch enough innings to qualify, but had an incredible season. To round out the rotation are pitchers Adrian Houser…
