Our season report card series continues. Here we will be looking at how Brandon Woodruff performed during the 2021 season. In 2018 and 2019, Brandon Woodruff had successful seasons as one of the top end starting pitchers in the Brewers rotation. This year, he took a huge step forward and established himself as one of the top pitchers in the league. As the teams opening day starter for the second year in a row, Woodruff went just four innings in his first outing while allowing three runs. After that, his next 10 starts from April 7th to May 30th were…

mark canha

Positional versatility has always been a characteristic that Brewers President of Baseball Operations David Stearns values. He also tends to place a heavy emphasis on depth when putting together a roster to prepare for a 162 game season. Given that, current free agent Mark Canha would be a great fit for the Brewers. Where would Mark Canha fit in defensively? Canha has played seven major league seasons, all with the Oakland Athletics. In 2015 he was primarily a first basemen in which he logged 537 innings at the position. Since 2015, he has played just 203 innings there including just…

The deadline to add players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft was Friday afternoon. Unlike years prior, the Brewers did not add any players. In fact, the only move made was Mark Mathis being outrighted to Triple-A. With the transaction, the 40-man roster was reduced to 35 players. Mathias, a utility infielder, was considered a fringe opening day roster player prior to an injury in spring training. He eventually under went season ending shoulder surgery in May. It is not all that surprising that he was outrighted seeing how the Brewers recently…

Counsell20 1

We have seen this storyline before. The Milwaukee Brewers put together a successful season under the guidance of manager Craig Counsell. He gets nominated as a manager of the year finalist, but ends up getting beat out by another candidate and finishes as a runner-up. 2021 was no different. Gabe Kapler, manager of the San Francisco Giants, was the 2021 manager of the year. He received 28 first place votes and 143 points all together. Craig Counsell had just a single first place vote, 22 second place votes, and four votes for third place. His grand total in points was…

adrian houser shutout 9.4.21

Our season report card series continues. Here we will be looking at starting pitcher Adrian Houser. Adrian Houser quietly carved out a career year as a starting pitcher in 2021. There are multiple reasons why his contributions may have been overlooked. Corbin Burnes pitched at a Cy Young level with Brandon Woodruff not too far behind, Freddy Peralta emerged as a starter, and even Eric Lauer was one of the best pitchers in the MLB during the second half of the season. Additionally, of the Brewers pitching accomplishments last season most will remember the combined no-hitter or Burnes striking out…

The front offices of the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to another trade with one another. During the season, Willy Adames came over from the Rays via trade and ended up being a catalyst to the team. Most recently, infielder Mike Brosseau was traded to the Crew for right handed pitcher Evan Reifert. Reifert is leaving the Brewers organization after just one season of professional baseball. Between the Low-A and High-A levels, he posted a 2.10 ERA in 60 innings pitched. He managed to strike out 103 batters and capitalized on eight out of fourteen save chances.…

After the Brewers decided to not bring back Andy Haines as the hitting coach, there was lots of speculation over who would get the position. The Brewers recently announced that they will hire two coaches to fill the position. Ozzie Timmons and Connor Dawson are the newly appointed co-hitting coaches. Ozzie Timmons Timmons is a 51 year old who most recently served as the Tampa Bay Rays assistant hitting coach and first base coach from 2017 to 2021. Prior to 2017, he was in the Rays’ minor league system as a hitting coach dating all the way back to 2007.…

Brewers President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has now made two under the radar signings in the past week.  Last week, pitcher Trevor Gott was signed to a major league deal.  Most recently, reliver Hobie Harris was signed as a non-roster invitee. The first person to report the deal was Will Sammon.  He made the announcement in the evening hours on Tuesday. Interesting under-the-radar addition for Brewers: adding minor-league FA RHP Hobie Harris to NRI deal, per source. He has hit 99 mph, good strikeout numbers. Was in big-league camp with Blue Jays last spring. — Will Sammon (@WillSammon) November…

Our season report card series continues.  Here we will be looking at Brewers infielder Luis Urias and how he performed during the 2021 season. After arriving to the Brewers via trade during the 2020 off-season, Urias entered his second season with the Crew competing for the everyday shortstop job during spring training and was expected to split time with Orlando Arcia.  However, one week into the regular season Arcia was traded.  This resulted in Urias being promoted to the everyday shortstop. Unfortunately, Urias stumbled both offensively and defensively as the every day shortstop.  Prior to May 22nd, the day Willy…

With the World Series concluding, the ability for MLB teams to make trades opens back up.  Brewers President of Baseball operations David Stearns historically has not hesitated to make trades with a vast majority of them working out in his favor.  Whether the deal is blockbuster or not, I would expect Stearns to pull the trigger on a few trades this off-season. In this article we will look at three players who are in danger of being traded this off-season.  1) OF Jackie Bradley Jr Desiring to trade JBJ is not unreasonable.  After signing a two year $24 MM contract,…
