Aaron Rodgers and his offseason plans have been the talk of fans, NFL analysts, and media personalities ever since he told Pat McAfee that he was going on a darkness retreat to help him gain clarity on his future. While Rodgers has quote tweeted one such person, encouraging him to be open-minded, he also went used his latest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to throw shade at NFL insiders for talking about him. This rant by Rodgers led Tiki Barber, the former New York Giants running back, to say that he does not think Rodgers is tough enough to play in New York.
Aaron Rodgers Has Been Linked to the New York Jets
Ever since the Green Bay Packers lost to the Detroit Lions in Week 18, there have been rumors that the New York Jets may try to acquire the future Hall of Famer. In fact, the Jets are the only team that has been confirmed to have actually reached out to the Packers regarding Rodgers’ availability via trade. Given the recent comments by Rodgers, however, Tiki Barber (who knows what it is like to deal with the New York media) does not think that Rodgers has the personality to be successful in such a large market.
“When you go and you’re doing something that feels odd to normal society, which is going to sit in a cabin in the woods for four days and complete sensory isolation, we’re going to talk about it.You have to. It’s our job to, and for him to get offended by that, he’s not going to handle the intensity of the New York media escape.
“I don’t know if I want him here, because it’s going to turn into a quick pain in the a– if Aaron Rodgers is thin, is that shallow.”
Barber went on:
“And as I’m reading the full quotes from his Pat McAfee weekly appearance…It just made me start to realize that if he is that sensitive, that he gets upset, that people, reporters, opinion makers, influencers who ever want to talk about him, he is going to struggle in New York and I don’t know if it’s the right fit for him. I don’t know if I want him in New York, if this is going to be his reaction to things that don’t matter. If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want people talking about him talking about his offseason, talking about his personal life, talking about all these things that are going on with Aaron Rodgers, he needs to stop talking.”
