The New York Jets made two major roster announcements regarding former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks on Tuesday.
The Jets are in full scramble mode ahead of their Week 2 contest against the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets confirmed Tuesday morning that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be lost for the remainder of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury.
The Jets have named 2021 first-round pick Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback going forward. However, the team is exploring options in the veteran quarterback department to back up Wilson. But for now, the Jets are using the players they have on the roster, including former Packers quarterback Tim Boyle.
New York Jets name former Tim Boyle QB2

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Jets are naming Boyle as their QB2.
Saleh says they'll look at veteran and young QBs to fill out the room, but clarifies: "Under no circumstaces is any of this a competition. This is Zach (Wilson)’s team and we’re rolling with Zach.”

They also wasted no time in prolonging their next roster move at quarterback. According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Jets placed Rodgers on injured reserve.

Boyle knows several former Green Bay Packers on the Jets
Promoting Boyle makes sense at this point. With the Jets’ offensive line being as bad as it is, they need someone who can immediately come in and play should Wilson suffer an injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.
Boyle is familiar with Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett during their time together in Green Bay. The Jets have several wide receiver options Boyle knows, such as Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.
