The Green Bay Packers have had an up-and-down week, haven’t they? They signed Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney but lost Aaron Jones and David Bahktiari to free agency.
David is still in limbo, probably just to sign with the Jets. Jones, however, joined Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley by joining his rivals. In Aaron’s case, he inked a short-term deal with the Vikings.
Not the Lions or the Bears, two teams Green Bay fans usually feel pity for. The Vikings, the biggest divisional rival give Green Bay the most trouble.
Most fans are still stunned by the news and are in the denial stage of grieving. Time hasn’t stopped, however, and unless the world ends or an injury occurs Aaron will be suiting up in purple this off-season. Will he bring Minnesota success?
What Other Moves Have The Minnesota Vikings Done This Week?
The Vikings have had an odd off-season, to be honest. They’ve been kicking the tires on a rebuild for years despite knowing deep down they couldn’t win it all with Kirk Cousins and their shaky defenses.
Minnesota let Kirk walk and sign with Atlanta in a QB-heavy draft year. Danielle Hunter also left the team and signed with Houston, leaving Justin Jefferson all alone. There are even rumors he’ll be traded to Cincinnati, meaning the Viking’s big 3 will all be gone if he leaves.
This might just be a pyrrhic victory for Green Bay fans. Short term it’s great, as the Vikings will struggle for the next 2 years. Whatever Super Bowl window they may have had is closed, if only temporarily.
Long term, however, the Vikings could be on the right path. If they pick the right QB and keep Jefferson, while also repairing a broken defense, the team could be setting themselves up for a long-term success.
How does Aaron Jones play into all of that?
What Aaron Jones Brings To Kevin O’Connell’s Offense
Right now, Jones’s biggest purpose is to keep Jefferson in Minnesota. Having a dynamic playmaker like Aaron and potentially drafting the right QB could keep Jefferson’s heart and trust in Minnesota.
With that being said, Jones might struggle a bit. The Vikings have had a horrendous line over the past few years in both run and pass blocking. While Jones is always liable to explode in the passing game, he might just do 4 YPC running behind an awful line.
Will Aaron Jones go off against the Packers whenever he plays them? Probably, cause that’s how these things go down.
