The Green Bay Packers season came to a brutal end on Sunday Night. After losing to the Detroit Lions 20-16, the Packers were eliminated from playoff contention. The loss dropped the Packers to 8-9 on the season and ended what was an improbable playoff run. To make the day worse, WR Allen Lazard says he’s likely played his last game as a Packer. So where does that leave the 2023 Packers when it comes to wide receiver?
Packers Wide Receivers Going Into The 2023 Season As We Sit Today
Allen Lazard had some pretty eye-opening comments after the Packers’ loss to the Lions. “I don’t know where I’m going to be at. I can’t worry about someone else,” Lazard said, standing at his locker. “Going into the game, I kind of had a realization that my first game here, and potentially my last game, which it is, was going to be against the Lions at home.” Full video below:

So anticipating that Lazard will not be back in 2023, these are the current wide receivers under contract for the 2023 season:
- Christian Watson
- Romeo Doubs
- Samori Toure
- Bo Melton (recently signed off Seattle’s practice squad)
It will be a waiting game to see if Randall Cobb comes back for one more year with the Packers. Cobb’s decision will likely be directly linked to Aaron Rodgers and if he decides to come back to Green Bay. Rodgers is under contract through the 2026 season, however he has admitted that retirement has been on his mind over the last few season. According to Matt Schneidman with The Athletic, however, Rodgers was asked by reporters if he felt like he could still play at an elite level. Rodgers certainly thinks he can:

“The answer’s yes.”

The Packers may look to free agency or even the draft (once again) to bulk up their receiving group during the 2023 off-season. They certainly have a bright future with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, however, adding a veteran would go along ways for this team. Especially if Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb indeed do not come back in 2023.
