The Green Bay Packers’ season came to a brutal end on Sunday Night. After losing to the Detroit Lions 20-16, the Packers were eliminated from playoff contention. The loss dropped the Packers to 8-9 on the season and ended what was an improbable playoff run. That doesn’t mean that the 2022 season didn’t see bright spots. One of those spots was rookie wide receiver, Christian Watson.
Christian Watson Vs. Davante Adams As Rookies Is Eye Opening
Davante Adams was one of the best wide receivers to ever don a Packers jersey. Adams started his career on a strong note in 2014. Comparing Christian Watson’s rookie season in 2022 to Adams’ in 2014 is shocking to say the least:
- Games Played:
- Watson: 14 – Adams: 16
- Snaps Played:
- Watson: 506 – Adams: 738
- Targets:
- Watson: 66 – Adams: 66
- Receptions:
- Watson: 41 – Adams: 38
- Receiving Yards:
- Watson: 611 – Adams: 446
- Receiving Touchdowns:
- Watson: 7 – Adams: 3
- Total Touchdowns:
- Watson: 9 – Adams: 3
- Passer Rating When Targeted:
- Watson: 121.5 – Adams: 87.5
- Yards Per Catch:
- Watson: 14.9 – Adams: 11.7
- Yards Per Target:
- Watson: 9.3 – Adams: 6.8
- Catch Percentage:
- Watson: 62.1 – Adams: 57.6
- First Downs:
- Watson: 28 – Adams: 23
Christian Watson, despite missing three games, had an incredible rookie season. The pair of Watson and Romeo Doubs makes for an exciting future for the Packers receiving game. The Packers traded two second round picks to move up to pick 34. Surprisingly, the team that they traded with was the Minnesota Vikings. Christian Watson was the Packers’ choice at pick 34. Watson had long been linked to the Packers and was a draft crush of many fans and analysts. Obviously, the Packers were high on him as well as they traded up to get him. One season later that trade paid off as Watson seems to be a true weapon going forward for this offense.
