The Brewers have lost three straight games after winning in walk-off fashion on Opening Day. The Crew will look to right the ship and get back to winning ways behind the right arm of Freddy Peralta. Peralta, who has pitched out of the bullpen for about a season and a half, unexpectedly won the Brewers’ fifth starting role out of Spring Training. Peralta did appear out of the pen on Opening Day. He pitched two scoreless innings, walked three, and struck out six.

Brewers’ Starter: Freddy Peralta
As mentioned, this will be Freddy Peralta’s second appearance of the season and his first start. Peralta has enjoyed moderate success against the Cubs in his young career. Wilson Contreras has two hits against him in five at bats, and Javy Baez has two hits in six at bats. They, however, are the only current Cubs players to get more than one hit off of Peralta, and none of their current roster has hit a home run off of him.
Peralta, known for his fastball, has added a nasty slider and a changeup that make him even more frustrating to face. He struggles to control these pitches, though, and may walk a few batters. Do not be surprised if he only lasts four or five innings. He may keep the Cubs off the scoreboard, but his pitch count will be up there.
Cubs Starter: Adbert Alzolay
Adbert Alzolay, like Peralta, put together a strong Spring Training to earn the Cubs’ final starting spot. The young rookie has made 10 appearances over the past two season, but really came on strong towards the end of 2020. Late last season, Alzolay made six appearances (four starts). He went 1-1 with a 2.95 in 21.1 innings pitched.
Alzolay has a 95-mph fastball to go along with a slider, curveball, and changeup. He is a strikeout pitcher, with an 11.9 K/9 ration so far in his young career. The Brewers’ offense, which has struggled early, will need to be patient at the plate as they wait for him to make a mistake.
