Wisconsin remains hot on the recruiting trail. Earlier this week, they received a commitment from the highly touted offensive lineman, Nolan Rucci. Now, they gained a commitment from three-star cornerback, Al Ashford III.
About Ashford
Ashford is a 6-1 cornerback out of Englewood, CO. He had a total of 19 scholarship offers. He chose the Badgers over teams like Arizona, Boise St., Colorado, Kansas, Kansas St., Oregon St., and more.
His commitment certainly came as a surprise to many. He really hasn’t been mentioned as a possible recruit who could commit. In fact, an article by 247Sports’ Bryan Agulo suggests that he didn’t even disclose that he had an offer from Wisconsin. Even his graphic announcing his commitment date didn’t have Wisconsin’s logo in it.

Also, according to 247Sports, there were four predictions for Ashford’s commitment. Three were for Colorado and the other was for Kansas St. In other words, this commitment really came out of nowhere.
He did have kind of a cool commitment though. While making his commitment on the local news, he pulled out a bottle of hand sanitizer with the Wisconsin logo on it. A true sign of the times.

Ashford will join Ricardo Hallman, as the second cornerback to commit to Wisconsin as a part of the 2021 class.
What We Can Expect
If you are wondering what to expect from Ashford in the future as a Wisconsin Badger, Blair Angulo gives a brief scouting report. First, has an ideal body type and has room to get bigger. Secondly, he has a high football IQ and projects as a potential multi-year starter. Finally, he also exhibits leadership qualities that could put him in line for a team captain position eventually.
Finally, if you want to take a look at the future Wisconsin cornerback’s high school highlights, here are his junior season highlights.
