After losing 3-2 to the Miami Marlins in extra innings on Monday night, the Milwaukee Brewers made sure to come into the second game of their three-game series with a vengeance, as they faced one of the worst teams in the Majors. At one point, the Brewers were down 5-4, but a three-run eighth inning gave Milwaukee a 7-5 lead and eventual win.
With the win, the Brewers are 28-20, first in the National League Central division by a game and a half. For the 16-34 Marlins, they are now 19 and a half games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the National League East division. Miami is six games out from fourth place which is held by the 21-27 New York Mets.
Milwaukee Brewers Delightful 8th Inning Rally Gives Them the Win Against Miami
During the top of the first inning, Brewers catcher William Contreras lined an RBI double into right-center field giving Milwaukee the first run of this ball game. An inning later, center fielder Blake Perkins hit an RBI ground ball single into left field. Miami would get a run in during the bottom of the second inning when second baseman Otto López drove an RBI single into left field. An inning and a half later during the top of the fourth inning, William Contreras ripped a two-run single to left field to give the Brewers a solid 4-1 lead.
Marlins Comeback to Take the Lead
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Marlins first baseman Josh Bell, who hit the game-winning hit on Monday night hit a sacrifice fly to right-center field to cut the deficit to 4-2. An inning later, Otto López drove in Jazz Chisholm Jr. on a sacrifice bunt during the bottom of the sixth inning. In the next at-bat, Marlins third baseman Emmanuel Rivera hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game up at four runs apiece. Miami would take the lead when right fielder Dane Myers hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
Brewers Three-Run Inning Leads Them to the Win
Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich obliterated a two-run single to center field during the top of the eighth inning allowing the Brewers to retake the lead with a score of 6-5. Milwaukee would tack on another run when the next batter Willy Adames hit an RBI double down the left field line, giving his team a two-run lead and eventually the win.
Milwaukee’s starting pitcher Robert Gasser pitched six innings allowing four runs on 10 hits. Brewers pitcher Tobias Myers picked up his first Major League win after he pitched one inning allowing one run while striking out two Marlins. Catcher William Contreras went two for four with three RBIs in the Brewers monumental win. Miami Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Rogers pitched three and two third innings allowing four runs on six hits, and four walks while striking out four batters. Marlins second baseman Otto López went one for three with two RBIs in the loss.
